The Sydney Convicts have kept a tight hold on their Wrestle a Rugger title after defeating the Melbourne Chargers in Wrestle a Rugger II at the Midnight Shift in Sydney on Friday Night.
The night was a huge success, with around 300 people packing Midnight Shift to enjoy some ferocious bouts and brilliant shows from Melbourne’s own Dolly Diamond and special guest Rose Garden.
Members of the Sydney Convicts and Melbourne Chargers rugby clubs battled it out in a pool of jelly through the night, with the Convicts emerging victorious after several bouts.
“It was great to have our Melbourne buddies up for Mardi Gras and we enjoyed the jelly infused frivolity on Friday night and an amazing Mardi Gras Parade on Saturday – the Convicts and Chargers combined forces in our largest rugby parade contingent ever with more than 100 marchers,” said Convicts president David Whittaker.
Melbourne Chargers President Sam Minter was gracious in defeat.
“We put up a good fight in the wrestling but once again were outdone by sheer size. We are looking forward to a re-match on home turf in the near future,” he said.
