Planning

We’re still 12 months out, but start planning leave from work – if you’re planning holidays after the tournament this might mean saving leave from now.

Fundraising

The Chargers are aiming to make the tour as affordable as possible for each player by covering as much of the cost of the tour as we can. Despite this, each player will need to cover the bulk of their airfares, accommodation and daily expenses.

Each touring player is expected to participate in fundraising events throughout 2011 and 2012, including but not limited to:

  • Sunday BBQs and meat raffles @ the Laird
  • Chargers Beer Bust and other events at Sircuit
  • Wrestle-a-Rugger
  • Collections and raffles at Carnivale, Pride and Chill-out etc

In addition, the club will be giving players the opportunity to fundraise for their own tour expenses through a major raffle (more on this later in the year)

Training

The tournament will involve up to six matches over three days so we’ll need 25 players who are physically ready for what is basically a war of attrition. The club is working on getting as much experience on the pitch or each player as possible, but a commitment is needed from each player to train and stay fit – it really makes a difference over the three days.

Next steps:

  • Review the checklist below
  • Respond to requests for information about your intention to tour
  • Ask questions – see Leo or Amy (Tour Managers) in the first instance.
  • Start saving, chip in at fundraisers and keep training!
