“My body is just not made to play rugby. Am I big enough? ”
Rugby is a great sport, giving guys of all shapes and sizes an opportunity to get involved. There is a position for everyone. Generally, if you are on the smaller side, you can have a run in the Backs and if you are larger you can get down and dirty in the Forwards. Don’t be a size queen – come down and watch a game to see how size really doesn’t matter.

“I have never played rugby before”
Neither have many of our players. We are a brand new club in a city dominated by a different kind of footy. One of our core values is to be encouraging & supportive of new guys to the game. Everyone who plays with us now had once never played rugby – now they are & loving it!

“I’m not a gym-junkie fitness freak ”
You don’t have to be! Whilst we would love to have a team full of guys who could bench press a small car, the reality is that we are an amateur club. There are no pre-requisites to join the team. Come as you are and our weekly training sessions will do the rest!

“It would be too hard to join the team as the new guy. I’m nervous”
It can sometimes be scary to join a team and be the new guy however we are committed to doing all we can to make our new players feel welcome and a part of the team. We have guys of varying experience who are all happy to share their experiences and help you get amongst the fun. If you are nervous, come along to one of our many social events and get a feel for the guys before you come to training or bring a friend – everyone is welcome!
Why don’t you come down to training and watch? There is no pressure for you to participate. Come down, see what goes on and have chat with the boys.

“My rugby days are over. I’m over the hill!”
There is absolutely no age limits on playing. Our current players range from 20 years old to 40 years old. It is a personal choice; however don’t think your age matters. Come down and watch a game to get a feel for the age diversity of the team!

“Wouldn’t there be homophobia?”
You’d be surprised to hear that we haven’t really experienced any homophobia at all. Rugby puts everyone on a level playing field and by simply running out onto the field, we are proving that whilst we are a club with a difference – we are no different than any of the other guys out there.

“Will I be thrown out of the field – what if I am not ready?”
We will not pressure you to play an actual game until you feel ready, and only you will know when you are ready. Rugby is about the team and everyone supports each other.

How much does it cost?
Running a Rugby Club is not cheap and we need to ensure that all of our players are insured, registered with the union and have all the gear they need so there is some cost to players. To play for a whole season costs about $175 -Chicken feed when you consider how much you can get out of it! And because we don’t want this to be an excuse either, we offer New Player Scholarships for suitable applicants. Enquire now!

“What if I can’t get to training every week?”
We recognise that training twice a week and Saturday games is a big commitment for people with busy lifestyles. Some do find it difficult at first but once you are a part of the team you will be begging for more. We understand if you have other commitments that make it hard for you to commit all the time. Many of our players can only make it to one of the two training nights – they are as much a part of the team as the rest of us. . All we ask is that you give it a go and don’t be a commitment-phobe!
